Men wear rings. Yes they do. Even if your dad doesn’t wear anything other than his gold wedding band, and even if your husband only wears his wedding band three times a year and once on your anniversary, there are zillions of men who love their jewelry as much as the ladies. And what’s more, men who love rings look for distinctive pieces that go with their individuality more so than women who may have a whole jewelry box full of rings given as gifts or purchased on impulse.

Gentlemen and their rings is a whole different world. Men’s rings are works of art carefully selected as statements about who they are. The problem is finding those exclusive pieces. Unique men’s titanium rings are filling a gap that has existed for a long time since they are strong, durable and now customizable and stylish as never before.

Men’s Titanium Rings Tales

I have a male friend who, for as long as I can remember, has had a ring almost on every finger. For each ring he has a story of where it came from or how it arrived on his hand. Some were from ladies, others found in unusual places, and one on his baby finger was made of iron since he’s an engineer. But as I said he had rings on ALMOST every finger, which means he had one finger that, for a very long time, remained bare.
When I first asked him why, he relied that it was for a unique ring that would one day come to him unexpectedly. And one day it did come to him. On a flight from Yemen to London he met a lady with as many rings on her fingers as he had. And she too had one empty finger. About 6 months ago they were married and, naturally, the rings they selected were of utmost interest to all their friends who knew them both to be avid ring collectors. What had they chosen? Titanium rings, of course.

Another man I met while I traveled as a journalist, also an international correspondent, wore several rings of unique design. However, while we were together on assignment in a very dangerous region, I removed every piece of jewelry I wore, including my earrings, while he did not. When I asked why he said he had several times been mugged, help up at gun point, robbed of everything he had on him including a cheap digital watch, $5 sunglasses, and half worn-out Nikes, but had never once had anyone attempted to take his rings. He laughed when he said, “they don’t sparkle, they’re not gold, the brand isn’t printed anywhere visible and so thieves don’t think they’re valuable – they’re just pieces of titanium!”
The funny thing was that I later learned that one of his rings was a titanium piece made by a London designer and had cost him almost £700. I’m glad I didn’t know their value until we were safely on a plane, with our stories ready for our editor, because it would have made me nervous.

An Italian artist who I met in Rome collected turquoise and then had them set into titanium rings because he said silver turned black with all the cleaners he used when he painted. His hands were a work of art, even if his paintings never sold.

The point is that men wear rings, sometimes more than women, and the designs are often more bold and make bigger statements than the little delicate rings for the ladies. Men who love jewelry really love their rings. And recently I have been surprised how many men are choosing titanium rings instead of gold or silver or platinum. First because, unless you are a flashy gold kind of guy, gold isn’t intrinsically a man’s metal except for a traditional wedding band. And silver looks worn very quickly and dents and gets bent out of shape, and platinum is a bit pricey if you like to indulge in ring binges.

Titanium, however, is the choice of gentlemen who work hard because they are durable. Most of the men I know with titanium rings said they chose them because of the unusual modern designs and because there are incredibly unique products that simply are not available in other metals.

And they were not referring to the industrial styles. Some men have unique titanium rings that are polished to a satin finish and have a chrome-like reflection. Others choose brushed titanium rings with directional texture and others have Celtic etchings and knots or cables. Some have open tops with no gemstones, others prefer masculine-square, and a few have selected unique titanium rings with wooden inlays.

For unique men’s titanium rings that aren’t just metal or precious stone but have color, there are anodized titanium rings. “Anodized” means that the titanium has been subjected to oxidization through a thermal treatment or an electrolytic bath that creates a colorful oxide layer on top of the titanium. Although the actual titanium ring has not changed color, the visible outer layer can be luminous green-turquoise-teal, blue-periwinkle-marine or reddish-purple-magenta.

It’s not about dying the ring or altering its metallic structure, it’s just a reaction that titanium has to heat and electrical currents. There are very unique men’s titanium rings that have been anodized, polished, brushed, etched or blackened.

Unique Black Titanium Rings for Men

Good quality black titanium rings are a unique choice for mens titanium rings. Black titanium rings are made from high grade titanium and heated or treated to produce the black effect. It is similar, in theory, to anodized titanium, but different in that if properly done it will not be just a thin coating on top of the titanium but should penetrate the metal, at least halfway through the ring.

Cheap black titanium rings are not a good choice. They will lose their blackness, and can be easily scratched, defeating the purpose of going with durable, scratch and dent resistant titanium in the first place. You should be paying no less than $200 to $1,000 for good quality black titanium rings. The $50 rings are not worth it!

Here are some that may be worth considering:

ARTCARVED Black Titanium Band – $389.00

ARTCARVED Black Titanium Ring – $510.00

EDWARD MIRELL Black Titanium Comfort Fit Band -$229.00
